WTHWWT- Week 8 (Nathan)

Me thinking the Cowgirls would lose.

Me thinking the Cowgirls would lose.

So, I’m seriously questioning what the hell I was thinking.

1. Picking and starting the 49ers’ players for my fantasy team? Fail

2. Thinking a team from Pennsylvania would actually do something to make me happy? Epic Fail

3. Thinking Dallas would lose again? Failtacular

New England Patriots 23 vs. St. Louis Rams 16
– Just when times were getting good for the Rams, the NFL declined the contract of Jim Haslett, stating that it was an illegal contract due to the agreement on Haslett winning 6 games, and then the Rams had to travel to New England, which is never a good thing (just ask Peyton Manning).  The Patriots won another game without Tom Brady and without a dominant rushing performance by anyone. Matt Cassel had two interceptions, and yet still led his team to a victory. Maybe he is that good… Maybe!

Dallas Cowgirls 13 vs. Tampa Bay Bucs 9 – So I pick Dallas and they lose. I pick against them and I lose. Brad Johnson led his team to victory and the Buccaneers just couldn’t get anything going. Maybe next week I won’t pick the Cowgirl game.

Reactions from Cowgirls players were positive after the W

Reactions from Cowgirls players were positive after the W

Miami Dolphins 25 vs. Buffalo Bills 16 – Chad Pennington threw for over 300 yards and the Dolphins withstood the offense of the Buffalo Bills, and survived to win. The Bills, maybe looking overlooking these next few games due to the easy schedule, just could not get any rushing going, and Trent Edwards is not proven enough yet to lead his team by just throwing the ball. Congrats Dick Jauron getting a contract extension. Well Deserved!

Cleveland Browns 23 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars 17 – HEY LOOK THE BROWNS WON A GAME!!! I guess the state of Ohio has something to cheer about after The Ohio State Buckeyes lost and watched their National Championship chances implode right in front of their eyes! Congrats Joe Pa and Romeo Crennel.

Houston Texans 35 vs Cincinnati Bungals 6 – HELLO BENGALS… ARE YOU THERE? Its time you show up to give your opponents a game. You just let the Houston Texans walk all over you. I think its time for a change somewhere on the sidelines. When will y’all get sick of losing? Hopefully, its soon.

She isnt very happy with losing to Houston.

She isn't very happy with losing to Houston.

New York Giants 21 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers 14 – Who thought a long snapper would decide the game? Well, the Steelers lost their long snapper due to injury, and his replacement took the word “long” literally and hiked the ball over the punters head and that led to a safety which tied the game. Then Eli Manning led his team to their first and only TD of the game and the Giants D stopped Big Ben and the Steelers offense to clinch the game. This is the beginning of a very tough road for the Giants.. Thanks, Steelers. You let me down again!

Seattle Seahawks 34 vs. San Francisco 49ers 13 – A new coach, a new attitude, the same result. Another L in the loss column for the 49ers. Seattle, depleted by injuries, dominated from the beginning and never looked back. Hopefully Mike Holmgren goes out strong in his final games as head coach for the ‘Hawks.

P.S.: This was written before Ray!!! Nathan Wins!!!

WTHWWT – Week 7 (Ray)

Well, what do you know? I actually have a great week in picking! Sad thing is I almost changed my Dallas pick to St. Louis, but didn’t. Damn. The Pack crushed the Colts and didn’t allow Peyton to throw a TD. When is the last time that happened? Virginia Tech standout Aaron Rouse had a 99-yard pick-six too! Great stuff.

Chicago 48 Minnesota 41

I have pretty much ran out of stuff to say on the Bears and Vikings seeing as I write about one every week. Both teams need to figure out who they are and stop being inconsistent. The Vikes had more total yards, but Gus Frerotte threw 4 interceptions. That is not going to get anything done. Adrian Peterson ran well, but because of Gus’ stupidity, Minnesota goes down. As much as I don’t like the Bears, I like Kyle Orton, always have. I wonder if anybody remembers Rex?

St. Louis 34 Dallas 14

This is another one of the games I am thrilled to write about. The Cowboys got absolutely thrashed and I got to watch it. Brad Johnson, playing for the injured Romo, was probably the worst quarterback to replace him. He played dreadful and should just go ahead and retire. What is Drew Henson doing these days? Dallas is screwed if they keep getting injuries; the latest is safety Roy Williams who is done for the season. One thing I do want to mention is why ESPN is telling us Wade Phillips job is safe. Of course it is. Why would you even bring that up to Jerry Jones? It is not Wade’s problem that everyone is getting injured. Stop trying to make stupid drama when there doesn’t need to be. Seriously, leave the man alone.

WTHWWT – Week 6 (Ray)

A slew of last minute victories sprinkled the NFL landscape this week, and of course a majority of them go the opposite way I picked. Let’s get it on!

Houston 29 Miami 28

Miami could have stole this one but decided that a loss would be the perfect way to end a day in Houston. The Dolphins rushing attack was decent, and Pennington performed quite well, but it still was not enough to take out the Texans. Some fans wanted Sage Rosenfels to be the starter after last week’s performance but Matt Schaub proved why he is QB1, leading the team down the field for the game winning touchdown (which he ran in). The Texans defense held and got the W. So, now Miami joins the ranks of the enigmas, playing great one week and losing a head-scratcher the next.

Tampa Bay 27 Carolina 3

Talk about laying a gigantic egg, Carolina. Way to not show up at all. A total of 40 yards rushing is all the Panthers could garner the whole game. The passing retreat (attack would be an injustice) led by Jake Delhomme was garbage, due to 3 INT. The Bucs need to choose a starting quarterback. This week it was Jeff Garcia who played the whole game and not Brian Griese. Pick one! It looked as though Carolina would become an NFC power but noooope! Once again, we’re left with questions. No team is that great in the NFL. Should be interesting as time goes on.

Indianapolis 31 Baltimore 3

Kudos to me for picking two teams that only managed 3 points in their games. I am truly honored to have such a despicable record grace the pages of this blog. First off, it is about time the Colts won a game at home. Took way too long. Both teams rushing dropped a deuce and stunk it up. Peyton Manning looked like he should have the first 5 weeks. Joe Flacco looked like he should have the first 5 weeks, a rookie. Flacco got intercepted-o three times and did not throw any touchdowns (obviously as the score of 3 tells you). The Ravens need to pick one RB and not use Ray Rice, Willis McGahee, AND Le’Ron McClain. McGahee should be the starter and finisher. You don’t pay him the big bucks to ride pine and let rookies play instead of him.

St. Louis 19 Washington 17

This is probably the happiest I have been after getting a pick wrong. I told everyone the Redskins were average and this proved it. They can beat Dallas and Philly all they want, but if you cannot defeat a WINLESS team, there is a huge problem. Everybody can now jump off the ‘Skins bandwagon. Sure, they put up good stats but they didn’t get the most important thing – the win. You can tell me all day Clinton Portis had 129 yds rushing and 2 TD! That’s fine for me for my fantasy team with Portis on it but it did not help your team at all win now did it? HA. Calm your nerves now Washington fans. Welcome back to Earth.

Jacksonville 24 Denver 17

Fairly even game here so not really any people I can go off on, unfortunately. I really thought Denver could be a great team, but now they are really sucking it. No spectacular stats here, just a hard fought Jaguars victory. Although, the Broncos need to get better on rush defense and not allow Jones-Drew 125 yards and 2 TD (but it helps my fantasy team! If you are keeping tabs I have Portis and Jones-Drew). Denver needs some consistency in their life and not flip-floppyness like John Kerry.

WTHWWT – Week 5 (Nathan)

So, in a week where the MLB saw the Cubs and Angels get eliminated from the playoffs, and the NHL started another season, with two games over in Europe, there was another week full of upsets and surprises in the NFL. The stock market continues to hit rock bottom and the presidential candidates continue to tour the country in hopes of people’s votes. Wachovia was bought out by Wells Fargo, and the University of Michigan got blown out of the water by the Fighting Illini and Juice Williams. As society continues to go downhill, the thoughts of where this world will be one year from today is just scary and unpredictable. But when times turn rough, you can always count on these blogs to cheer you up.

Atlanta vs Green BayAaron Rodgers vs Matt Ryan. Both very young inexperienced, starting quarterbacks and Lambeau Field on the first weekend of October, it does not get any better than this. People were unsure of how Rodgers would play because of his shoulder injury, but in an attempt to beat Brett Favre’s record setting streak of continuous starts, Rodger suited up and played. In the end, Matt Ryan was the quarterback who was leaving the field as a winner. This is the third week in a row that I have had to write about the Packers which is not a good thing. Hopefully they get the team back on track on their way to Seattle to visit former head coach Mike Holmgren.

San Diego vs Miami – So as I should have done when picking my picks for the week, the Chargers will now be known as the Padres. Hopefully this will give them a reason to start winning… Miami once again surprised the league with another upset victory. The Miami Dolphins are the team that everyone is going to overlook this season. Expect the Dolphins to finish at least .500 this season. They are that good. Or that average. However you want to look at it.

Buffalo vs Arizona – If any Buffalo Bills fans thought that JP Losman was a good quarterback hopefully this week proved something to you. The only good thing JP is good for is riding the bench and maybe giving the plays to the quarterback. On his first drive, JP lost a fumble and the Cardinals subsequently scored on the following drive. Hopefully, Trent Edwards can heal up over the bye week and come back in two weeks and start at quarterback. Concussions are so unpredictable so I’m sure we won’t find out until next week whether he can play or not.

Pittsburgh vs Jacksonville – Once again, the Jaguars let me down. Their lack of a running game has imploded my fantasy teams all season long and until they find a decent tandem in the backfield, it’s going to be a long season for the Jags.  Jones-Drew and Taylor must pick it up for Jacksonville’s success. The Steelers are going to have another dominant year in their division and will end up making the playoffs once again.

So, as this will be my last blog before the NHL Season officially starts on Thursday, let me finish this by saying Go Wings… HEY HEY HOCKEYTOWN!

Execution Day II; WTHWWT – Week 5 (Ray)

This NFL season is turning out to be one of the weirdest I have ever seen. Teams keep blowing their 4th quarter leads, there is a new injury every week, and the teams that do win do not deserve to. Let me get started.

Tennessee 13 Baltimore 10

The Titans are the weakest 5-0 team I have seen in my life. They are not that good and are way overrated. Kerry Collins is nothing special and neither is their running game. Their defense is good but there is no way they should be 5-0 right now. The Ravens should have won this game, hands down. They let it slip away from them, when they had the Titans where they wanted them. I see the Titans as an average .500 team still, despite their record.

Atlanta 27 Green Bay 24

I hate Matt Ryan. Let me get that statement out of the way first. The Packers defense has reverted back to the old days of letting people score all over them. Al Harris’ injury has been big and Charles Woodson has not been 100% either. The Pack must get Ryan Grant more involved. As soon as they get behind, it is all put on Aaron Rodgers. Stick with Ryan Grant. It works when he gets the ball. The Packers are still 2-0 in the NFC North, which is important, but if they cannot beat teams like Tampa and Atlanta, I am going to have to start picking against them.

Indianapolis 31 Houston 27

I had this game picked! Sage Rosenfels decided he wanted to blow a 17 point lead with 5 freakin’ minutes left. Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Houston has got to learn how to seal a deal. I realize they are winless but come on, every team needs to have some sort of victory escape plan. The Colts have cemented the fact that they are average. This win proves nothing about them, besides that they are terrible. Peyton looks mediocre, as does Addai. They better pick it up if they want to even MAKE the playoffs.

Washington 23 Philadelphia 17

I am not ready to concede that Washington is a good team. I just can’t seem to fit them in with the elite teams in the NFL (there really aren’t any though). The defense is pretty good, but nothing spectacular. Clinton Portis is a solid back, but can be fairly inconsistent. Jason Campbell is improving but when the big game comes around in December and January, I think he will crack. Get on me all you want Skins fans, your team is not as good as you think. It is all one, big mirage.

New England 30 San Francisco 21

This was a last minute change for me.  Woe is me for picking against Bill Bellicheck after a bye week, but what the hell?  I thought the 49ers could take advantage of being at home and they didn’t play poorly, they just turned the ball over too much – 3 INT.  The Patriots had the ball for almost 40 minutes, and that is why they won.  J.T. O’Sullivan is definitely a competent quarterback, but it is becoming clear to me that teams these days do not care as much about the run anymore.  Frank Gore only had 12 carries.  Frank is a very, very good back.  The Big Dawg’s gotta eat.  Give him the ball more San Francisco!

Minnesota 30 New Orleans 27

OK, evidentally I have some sort of NFC North curse where whoever I pick does the opposite.  The Saints deserved this win and they blew it.  Martin Gramatica blew it.  Fire him right now.  He is garbage beyond belief.  Sign Morten Anderson.  Gramatica sucks.  Reggie Bush had two punt return touchdowns and Brees had over 300+ yards passing.  The defense played well.  But the Saints decide to take so many penalties and have turnovers galore.  Adrian Peterson was invisible.  This is all on Gramatica.  The NFL’s worst kicker.

WTHWWT – Week 4 (Nathan)

It’s time for change. Instead of starting out complaining about how often the teams I want to win actually lose, and vice versa, I’m going to start out on a decent note. After burying his infant child on Saturday afternoon in Texas, Matt Bryant, kicker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, converted 3 field goals and led his team to victory. Just being in the game was a victory for Bryant, but kicking his team to a victory was just a miracle. Any guy who can have that much courage and just be in the state of mind to do his job a day after burying a family member, especially one whose life was cut way to short, is remarkable. And even though he defeated my team, he still deserves some props. To all the Bryant family, sorry for the loss.. From Both of us who write these blogs, our hearts and prayers are with you.

And now time to write about my mistakes.

Green Bay 20 Tampay Bay 31 – Is it me or do the Packers always have a tough time playing in Tampa Bay? Aaron Rodgers and Brian Griese both threw three interceptions, but the key to the game was Rodgers self-proclaimed separated shoulder. Tests are being done today on his shoulder, but until the results come back, the Packers season is in limbo(Upgraded to shoulder sprain). Matt Flynn, who beat out Brian Brohm during the preseason, is their second string quarterback, and with his lack of experience, the Packers may be in trouble. The Packers play the young and upcoming Vickless (still funny) Falcons next week in Green Bay. Dealing with the loss of a family members, the Bucs played like they had a chip on their shoulder, and with the help of Matt Bryant and his son, who was watching the game from up above, the Bucs finished on top. The Packers are now on a 2 game losing streak heading into a week full of questions and concerns.

Arizona 35 vs New York Jets 56 – I guess Brett Favre’s ankle is fully healed, and not to mention his shoulder. Brett Favre tapped into the record books again yesterday by leading his team to 34 points in the second quarter. Brett Favre picked apart the Arizona Cardinals defense, who decided they were going to play a soft zone defense, for 6 touchdowns and close to 300 yards. Anyone who doubted his ability, owes Brett Favre and for goodness sakes Deanna as well, an apology. If the Jets allow Favre to play like he did this week, then they surely will be fighting the Bills for top spot in the AFC East. And as an avid supporter of Brett, I’m proud to still own my Favre 4 President 08 shirt!

Dallas 24 vs Washington 26 – Once again, TO has the chance to prove himself and what does he do… EPIC FAIL! Over one-third of the plays Dallas did on Sunday were directed towards TO and what did he do…not a damn thing. Its a shame that someone that cocky and ignorant can talk the talk but cannot walk the walk. Oh yea, not to mention, he was still upset because not all the plays went to him. What a punk! Oh yeah Redskins, Good Game. Way to show the NFC East that you are back in it… for now.

Philadelphia 20 vs. Chicago 24 – Wow! The Bears actually did something productive. They actually beat someone who is “good”. Yeas, the Eagles were without their RB but they still have Donovan McNabb and he’s good enough by himself to beat the Bears, on most nights. The NFC North is going to be a tough division this year, minus the Lions that is. The Bears, Packers, and Vikings all have a chance to win the division… Keep your eyes out on this division!!!

I think it’s the appropriate time to say a fond farewell to a great friend and horrible human being. In six years, this fellow did absolutely nothing for the NFL and it’s most definitely a good thing that he has been axed! Times can’t get any worse for the team that he drove right into the ground. Thanks Matt for all you have done, and lack thereof.

Matt Millen- Finally Gone!!!

Have a good week everyone…

– Nate
